The following are my famous and infamous ancestors. Most are very distant cousins. My 2 closest cousins are Skeeter Davis and Cal Ripken, Jr.
Pope Gregory V (c972-999) - He was Pope from May 3, 996 until his death on February 18, 999. He is my paternal 32nd and 33rd great granduncle.
Saint Thomas More (1478-1535) - English lawyer, social philosopher, author, statesman, and noted Renaissance humanist. He was also a councilor to Henry VIII, and Lord High Chancellor of England from October 1529 to 16 May 1532. He wrote Utopia, published in 1516, about the political system of an imaginary, ideal island nation. Pope Pius XI canonized him as a martyr in 1935. My paternal 13th great grandfather.
Sir John Harington, II (1561-1612): Writer and inventor of the flush toilet. My paternal 10th great grandfather.
Captain Henry Morgan (1636-1688) & Mary Elizabeth Morgan (1640-1696): Privateer (“legal” pirate): Governor of Jamaica. While I am not directly related to Henry, I am related to his wife, Mary. She is my paternal 1st cousin, 11x removed and 1st cousin, 12x removed (4 different ways). Many believe Henry is from the Morgan’s of Tredegar, but there is no proof. If he is, then he would be my blood relative and he and Mary would be cousins.
John Robinson (1660-1723) - He was appointed Bishop of London by Queen Anne. He was appointed British Ambassador to Sweden for 15 years. He was appointed Lord Privy Seal (a senior cabinent minister without specified duties). Plenipotentiary to the Congress of Utrecht, 1713-1715 (he had the power to sign treaties for the monarchy). He is my paternal 8th great granduncle.
Josiah Bartlett (1723-1802): Signer of the Declaration of Independence and 1st governor of New Hampshire. He is my maternal 3rd cousin, 8x removed. Our common great grandparents are John Emery, Sr. (b: 1598) and Alice Grantham (b: 1599) - my 10th GGP.
Caesar Rodney (1728-1784): Signer of the Declaration of Independence and President of Delaware. He was an officer in the Delaware militia during the French and Indian War. He is my paternal 6th cousin, 9x removed (4 different ways) and 6th cousin, 10x removed. Our common great grandparents are Thomas Morgan (b: 1482) & Elizabeth Vaughn (b: 1486) – my 14th & 15th GGP
General George Washington (1731-1799) & Martha Dandridge (1731-1802): 1st President of the United States. He is my maternal 2nd cousin, 9x removed. Our common great grandparents are William Ball II (b: 1615) & Hannah Atherold (b: 1614) – my 10th GGP

Dr. Elisha Story (1743-1805): Known Boston Tea Party participant. He is my paternal 6th cousin, 8x removed. There were a lot of Boston Tea Party participants, but he is the only one of my relatives I have found that participated. Bathsheba Ruggles (Spooner) (1746-1778): 1st woman executed in America after the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It was considered the first capital murder trial in the United States. She conspired with several others to kill her husband, Joshua Spooner. She was 5 months pregnant at the time of her execution. She asked for a stay of execution because of her pregnancy, but was denied with a panel erroneously determined she was not pregnant. Post-mortem examination revealed she was telling the truth. Noah Webster (1758-1843): 1st American dictionary in 1828. He was also a Revolutionary War Veteran and member of the Connecticut House of Representatives. He is my maternal 3rd cousin, 9x removed. Deborah Samson (1760-1827): Female soldier, teacher, weaver, lecturer, & farmer. She was a Massachusetts woman who disguised herself as a man in order to serve in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. She is my maternal 3rd cousin, 10x removed. Herman Webster Mudgett (aka Dr. H. H. Holmes) (1861-1896): Chicago Serial Killer during the Chicago World’s Fair. Convicted and hanged for nine 1st degree murders, though he confessed to 27. Some of those he confessed to have killed were later found alive, but the actual number may be more than 27. He has been portrayed in books and movie productions. Hamilton Howard “Albert” Fish (1870-1936): Serial Killer, rapist, cannibal, child molester. He is also known as the Gray Man, the Werewolf of Wysteria, the Brooklyn Vampire, the Moon Maniac, and The Boogey Man. Fish once boasted that he "had children in every state", and at one time stated his number of victims was about 100.
